Dental Bonding

6 Benefits of Dental Bonding

Cosmetic dentistry procedures like dental bonding can be used to enhance the appearance of a patient's smile and improve the functionality of their teeth. At Titan Dental Care, we provide treatments that move our patients closer to their desired smile.

One of the popular procedures we provide is dental bonding. It involves using a composite resin to restore the affected tooth.

Why you should consider dental bonding

There are many benefits that patients get to enjoy when they opt for dental bonding over other cosmetic dentistry treatments. These include:

1. It is non-invasive

There is nothing invasive about the application of composite resins. Anesthetics rarely have to be used during this procedure since it typically does not involve any pain. The dentist applies an etching solution to the tooth to roughen its surfaces. This makes it easier for the composite to adhere to it.

The composite can come as a liquid or a putty, and it is applied directly to the tooth. It is shaped into the desired form and hardened with a light. Other layers of the composite are then added to the first layer until whatever problem the patient is dealing with has been rectified. The entire process often takes less than an hour for each tooth.

2. The results are comfortable and natural looking

A tooth that has been restored with a composite looks indistinguishable from a natural tooth. The composite can be selected to match the patient's natural tooth color so it blends in with the remaining teeth.

3. Enamel is not damaged during the procedure

During dental bonding, the patient's enamel is not damaged in any way. That makes composite bonding a non-permanent procedure since the tooth is not compromised by the treatment. As a result, the patient is free to explore other options later down the road.

If a tooth is restored with a different option, like veneers, the damage done to the tooth during its installation is irreversible. It means the tooth will need to be covered with veneers or another prosthetic that protects the tooth for the rest of the patient's life.

5. Great for stains and discoloration

Teeth whitening treatments are much more effective nowadays, but there are still stains that are not responsive to the bleaching agents used for these treatments. Composite resins can be used to whiten a tooth that has been discolored, without making any permanent alterations to it.

The patient gets whiter teeth without having to pay for a prosthetic like a crown or a veneer.

6. Fixes minor alignment problems

Composite resins can also be used to repair minor teeth alignment issues like spaces between teeth. It is a faster and less invasive option than having to wear orthodontic devices like braces for a certain amount of time.
