Denture Adjustments and Repairs

Denture Repair – How Is a Single Tooth Fixed?

Denture repair is something that many people with dentures may have to consider at some point. Many people choose dentures as an affordable way to replace missing teeth. They are usually comfortable, easy to clean and durable. However, they are still not as strong as implants or natural teeth. When a patient bites on something hard, part of the denture can crack or chip. Read on to learn how a dentist can repair them.

Problems with broken dentures

If a patient does not have the dentures repaired, the dentures can cause a variety of problems. For example, the place of the missing tooth can irritate the patient’s tongue, lips or rest of the mouth.

Denture repair

When a denture tooth breaks or falls out, the patient should take out the dentures. Wearing or using dentures with a damaged tooth can cause further problems to the dentures. The patient should soak the dentures as normal after taking them out of the mouth.

If a patient’s denture tooth falls out, the patient should locate the tooth and place it in a plastic bag. This will allow the dentist to place it back in the denture. If the tooth is chipped, the dentist can remove the tooth from the denture and place a new tooth. The color of this new tooth will match the rest of the teeth in the denture.

Sometimes, the teeth in the dentures will fall out or break simply because the dentures have been worn out. If this is the case, then the dentist may recommend getting a new set of dentures. This can be more cost-effective in the long run than having denture repair often.

Avoiding home denture repair

It is important that patients do not try to fix the dentures at home. Many people will consider using strong glue to replace the tooth or part of the tooth. However, many of these glues are water-soluble, which means the glue will dissolve once the patient wears the denture again. Another problem with at-home denture repair is that the chemicals in these glues are not meant to be used in the mouth.

Denture repair kits are not as likely to last as a professional denture repair. Having an experienced dentist repair the dentures will facilitate the repair process. If a person attempts to repair their dentures with a kit, it can make it more difficult for the dentist to repair the dentures in the future. The buildup of glue around the tooth and denture can prevent a new one from fitting.

Visit a dentist for denture repair

If you have broken a tooth in your dentures, do not hesitate to get it repaired. The sooner you can get it repaired, the more likely it is that the dentist will be able to completely fix it. It is important to contact your dentist as soon as possible. Avoid trying to repair your dentures at home, as this can cause further damage.
